The Heating And Warmth Fund

The Heating And Warmth (THAW) fund was established in 2006. It is an entirely donor-supported fund that was created to assist Hancock and Washington county residents once per year who are program eligible for emergent heating assistance.

Do you need energy assistance?

People who do not qualify for other home energy assistance programs, may be eligible for THAW. THAW aid is provided based on need, not income. Call to learn more, Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4 PM (207)664-2424.

In addition to providing heating fuel, assistance can also be provided for wood, wood pellets, bio-bricks, and electricity.

Am I eligible for THAW?

Eligibility for THAW assistance includes just three simple steps.

Step 1: Schedule or complete HEAP (fuel assistance) appointment.

Please note: THAW applicants do not have to complete the entire HEAP application process before receiving THAW assistance. Applicants must only schedule a HEAP appointment at the time of application for THAW. The purpose of this step is to ensure that everyone who applies for THAW receives HEAP and its related benefits, if they are eligible, in addition to THAW assistance.

Step 2: Provide proof of SNAP eligibility or monthly income within the following guidelines.

For 7 or more household members, please add $500.00 per person.

Step 3: Have not received THAW in the past 12 months.

What happens after I am approved THAW?

Upon approval, a delivery will be scheduled within 24-48 hours. Below is a list of the fuel sources we assist with:

100 gallons of fuel (oil, kerosene, or propane).
1 cord of wood.
1 ton of pellets.
1 ton of bio-bricks
$300 electric payment— if electric is primary heating source.
