Food Distribution Project
Down East Business Alliance conducted a research project to find out what farmers and value-added food producers in Down East Maine need to help them prosper. DBA received a grant from Maine Technology Institute (MTI) to find out to what extent small farmers and food producers in this region can benefit from shared resources - such as food processing equipment, storage facilities and distribution capability.
DBA has done intensive on-site surveys of farmers and food producers to dig deeper into the issues of food distribution in this region. Healthy Acadia surveyed schools and other institutions to learn the needs and issues for commercial food buyers. These efforts culminated in a report on the needs for food storage, processing and food distribution in Down East Maine.
