These programs provide assistance with the cost of child care for eligible families and children.

Requirements: Income eligibility, for Voucher you must be a resident of Washington County, employed or attending and education program. For Title XX, you must use a certified family home childcare provider.

Coordinates various activities designed to prevent child abuse and neglect through education and coordination of community efforts. The council also sponsors the “Baby Think It Over” program, a hands on learning program aimed at educating young people about the life changing effects of teen pregnancy. “Baby Think It Over” provides education about proper care of children through the use of realistic, computerized “babies”.

Requirements: The “Baby Think It Over” program is open to all community educators for participation.

Keeping Children Safe Downeast is a Safe Start Initiative in rural Washington County, Maine. Our purpose is to reduce the impact of violence in the lives of our youngest children between birth and age six. We are one of eleven pilot sites funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).

A United States Department of Agriculture program that insures healthy meals are served to children attending child care by reimbursing providers with the cost of serving those meals.

Requirements: You must be a licensed or legal unlicensed childcare provider.

Offers free child safety seats, education, and safety checks.

Requirements: You must meet income guidelines and be the primary caregiver of
the child needing the safety seat.

A program designed to provide jail residents with assistance with identifying residents strengths/ assets and areas of challenge, information and referrals to health and social services and assistance with completing MaineCare, Medicare, SSDI, or other state/ federal assistance forms.
